Ask a question

See below for some guidelines concerning questions. All questions submitted to this site become the property of AskPhilosophers.org; for more information about copyright, see the "About the site" page.

In order to prevent spam submissions, we ask that you answer the following question:

"What is the capital of France?"

If you submit your e-mail address below, an automated message will be sent to you whenever your question gets a new response. You do NOT have to provide an e-mail address to submit a question; this is OPTIONAL. (Your e-mail address will not be posted or used for any other purpose; it will not be given or sold to anyone.)

We hope the following guidelines will prove useful. Most likely, your submission will not be posted: if it isn't intelligible; if it's too vague or general (like "What is evil?" or "What is a closed system?"); if it's a question about religious doctrine narrowly understood (like "Why did God create the Heavens?"); if it's a question that is clearly scientific in nature (like a question about photons); if it concerns a very specific personal problem that doesn't relate to more general issues; if your question seems like an exam question or a paper topic; if your question indicates that you do already have access to many philosophical resources; or if it's a question that's already been asked (use the Search box or browse through the Categories to determine if a question very like yours has been posted). You can always post your question on the Google Group associated with this site (see the "About the site" page for more information). And please remember, a rejected question isn't necessarily a Bad question! It's just that we have to choose from among the many questions we get those for which philosophers can provide helpful responses. Finally, know that all unanswered questions are automatically deleted after one month.

Sorry, AskPhilosophers is on vacation! We will open for business again on Monday, May 5, 2008. Please come back to ask your question in -13 days. We look forward to reading it then. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy browsing through the site. Thanks for your patience.
