Stanley Bates

Stanley Bates is Professor of Philosophy at Middlebury College. He graduated from Dartmouth College, and Oxford University, and received his Ph.D from Harvard University. He taught at the University of Chicago before he came to Middlebury. He’s also been a Visiting Fellow at Harris-Manchester College, Oxford University. His main interests are in ethics, political philosophy, and aesthetics, especially philosophy of literature and philosophy of film. He also has taught courses on Kant, Nietzsche, Freud, Wittgenstein, Cavell and Rawls.
